Basement converted into Cinema in Hebden Bridge
Basements make great cinema rooms! We were approached to build a dream cinema room for our client in Hebden Bridge.
The project required significant structural work to open up two small rooms into one large room. The floor levels of the rooms required significant alteration and structural strengthening. We used a concrete pumping system to get the large slab laid in one pour. The room was then lined in Newton membranes.
The property was built on a steep hill, so it was possible to drain the basement using gravity, rather than a sump and pump.
Once the waterproofing was complete we embarked on the full fit out of the cinema room. The most important element was improving the acoustic performance of the rooms, by using Soundblock plasterboard, resilient bars, and rockwool insulation. The walls and ceiling were lined and isolated from each other in order to stop sound transferring through the house.
Our electrical contractors fitted mood lighting, surge proof power supplies and av equipment.
The basement was then finished with quality joinery, plastering and plumbing. From start to finish the project took 12 weeks.
Designer's notes: In many projects, detail is as important as the big picture. Acoustic performance was as important as the structural waterproofing to ensure the project worked well. The client chose one company to ensure that all the elements of the transformation integrated perfectly.
