How do you convert a basement?

We use a system of specialist concrete, plastic membranes and pumps to create a dry usable space with lots of headroom, easy access and as much natural light as possible. All of our solutions comply fully with BS8102 and Building Standard requirements.

The membranes cover the walls and the floor and exist to collect the water in one place where it can be pumped into a nearby sewer or drain. The membranes are sealed together to effectively resist the ingress of damp and water. Finally the membrane is completely covered with plasterboard and offers a clean, aesthetically pleasing wall. All services such as electrical cables and pipes are contained behind the plasterboard.

How do you convert a basementThe floors are also an important structural element in supporting the building above, as well as resisting water pressure from below. Typically they will incorporate insulation to ensure that your building remains thermally efficient.

We use the latest in pumping technology to ensure that whatever the weather and ground conditions the system can easily cope. We install twin pumps, so that if one fails, the other one will handle water ingress. All of our systems incorporate warning alarms to notify of any pumping problems.

We have experience in all the major systems on the market and can recommend to you the best and most cost effective solution for your project.

We offer a 10 year insurance backed guarantee against all aspects of our basement conversion work as standard on every project.

Basement Conversion - InteriorBS8102 is the British Standard for the protection of structures against water from the ground. It explains fully all design principles that need to be adhered to and forms the basis for UK Building Regulations that deal with basement and cellar conversions. Crucially it states that, even in basements that are currently dry, the designer should presume that the structure will be subject to water ingress at points in it's life. With changing climatic conditions, rising water tables and sustained periods of high rainfall it's essential that your solution will stand the test of time.

Basements and cellars are a crucial structural element of your building. It's vital to ensure that your chosen cellar conversion contractor has the expertise to undertake your requirements. As an absolute basic they should be able to explain BS8102, carry the specialist insurances needed, fully understand the relevant Building Regulations and be able to give you case studies of cellar works recently completed. Everything looks nice when it's new, and at best, mistakes in the initial specification, or subsequent build lead to reduced lifespans and problems. At worst the structural integrity of your building could be compromised. It pays to choose your contractor carefully.
